About This Place

Nestled in the vibrant neighborhood of San Francisco’s Sunset District, Banh Mi Crunch is a must-visit destination for lovers of authentic Vietnamese sandwiches and flavorful rice plates. Specializing in traditional Bánh mì with a modern twist, this cozy restaurant at 646 Irving St has quickly become a local favorite for its masterful balance of textures, flavors, and fresh ingredients.

The heart of Banh Mi Crunch lies in its sandwich craftsmanship. The bread alone is a revelation—crisply toasted on the outside while remaining soft and airy inside, creating the perfect vehicle for their boldly seasoned fillings without ever taxing the jaw. Among the standout offerings, the Grilled Pork Banh MI is a crowd-pleaser, lined with a delicate layer of savory pâté that adds depth and richness. Fans of something lighter will appreciate the Banh MI Veggie Tofu, packed with fresh, crunchy vegetables and marinated tofu, delivering a satisfying yet refreshing bite.

For those looking to indulge beyond sandwiches, the Chicken and Eggroll Vermicelli and the Crunch Combo rice plate options serve as heartier alternatives bursting with bold lemongrass, five-spice, and pork belly flavors that blend harmoniously with fragrant steamed rice and fresh herbs. The Shrimp Spring Rolls and Fried Eggrolls provide excellent appetizers, boasting crisp wrappers and perfectly balanced fillings that are complementary to the main dishes.

Much more than just flavor, Banh Mi Crunch promises consistency and quality with every visit, as echoed by loyal customers who have returned multiple times during their stays in San Francisco. With affordable prices ranging from mid-to-high teens for combos and plates, the portions are modest but carefully crafted to deliver maximum flavor in every bite.

Whether you're savoring the tangy lemongrass beef sandwich or indulging in the Crunch Plate’s robust BBQ flavors, Banh Mi Crunch offers a sensory journey through Vietnamese street food that feels both authentic and thoughtfully elevated. It’s the kind of place that makes you pause, close your eyes, and appreciate the layered complexity of every ingredient—crisp vegetables, tender marinated meats, and that unmistakable crunch of well-toasted bread. Ordered Crunch Combo and Lemongrass beef sandwiches. Cut them in half and shared half a sandwich each with a friend at Marina Green. Crunch has a thin veneer of delicious pate on the bottom bread. Bread was crispy on top and soft throughout which was easy to chew. Sometimes Banh mi bread makes my jaw ache from excessive chewing. The bread they use is fantastic. The only gripe is that there was a mouthful of gristle in my lemongrass beef, but otherwise, the sandwiches were delicious and composed well. I’ll definitely come back. Forget the others. So far, it’s my favorite/the best Banh mi I’ve tried in San Francisco.

This is the bahn mi you're looking for. We were in SF for 7 days and we ate here 3 times. The bread is lightly crispy on the outside (not sharp or hard) and soft on the inside, the vegetables are fresh, the meat is well-seasoned, and the sauce is balanced and delicious. This was all consistently true over our three visits. The service was fast each time we went and the gentleman who took our order was very friendly and personable. Support this small, local business and eat delicious food at the same time - easy choice!

So good! I got the pork rice plate to go and took it to Golden gate park to eat it. The milk tea was ok, not sure if it’s the best tea quality but ordered it because I didn’t have water with me. TLDR the food is really good I highly recommend

I tried the Banh Mi Crunch and enjoyed it overall. Flavors were solid, and the chicken had a firmer, jerky‑like texture—unique, though not for everyone. Portion size and presentation met expectations. Service was friendly, and the casual counter‑style seating made for a relaxed atmosphere.

Solid spot for delicious banh mi. The kind gentleman closed the door because he saw I was cold. Very clean restaurant. Seats about 8 inside along the wall and window. I will def be back to try everything else. Crunch Combo ($11.95) - Crispy outside and soft bread inside. Not crunchy where it cuts your mouth. Well-seasoned meat with mayo. My bf said it was the best banh mi he's ever had in SF.

Delicious sandwich, quick service. Ordered 3 Banh Mi and fries on phone. Walked 15 minutes to restaurant and the nice gentleman that works there was just walking out of kitchen with my order when I arrived. Perfect timing. The beef sandwich was my favorite, followed by combo, followed by chicken- all were great. We asked for extra pickled veggies on each sandwich- $1 charge per but worth it! The fries were crisp and well priced at $5, good portion. We wanted to order again tonight- but alas, we are to late! Next time! Thank you for the high quality food and great service, Banh Mi Crunch!
